Abstract

|
The author investigated of some chemical properties and antibacterial activities agaiast Staphylococcus aureus 209P and Escherichia coli 0111 using of several extracts obtained from the dry powdered Scutellaria baicalensis by acetone, ethanol, cold water, hot water, 1% HCI and 5% NaOH, and tested of antibacterial activities against the above organisms using of several fractions from each extract.
The NaOH extract revealed the strongest antibacterial activities against both organisms while the hot water extract promoted of the growth of both organisms.
Most fractions including 1-¥¡, 1-¥¤, 1-¥§ (from acetone extract), 2-ii, 2-iv (from ethanol extract). 3-ii, 3-v (from cold water extract), 4-iii (from hot water extract) and 5-iv (from 1% HCI extract) revealed strong antibacterial activities against both organisms.
